This Colorado Design Will Inspire Your Remodel

At Speas Interior Design, our philosophy is simple: every space tells a story. We collaborate with our clients to bring their ideal style to life, creating designs that are as functional as they are gorgeous. We take immense pride in crafting spaces that truly reflect the personalities of their inhabitants. In this blog post, we’re excited to delve into one of our favorite projects: Going Daisies for Colorado. This showcase exemplifies the magic that unfolds when visionary residential interior design meets individual inspiration.

We invite you to discover how Going Daisies for Colorado transcends conventional design boundaries. By mixing natural elements like wood and stone with cheerful and classic daisy motifs, we’ve created a joy-inspiring space. This project embodies a harmonious balance between function and beauty, achieved through meticulous attention to detail and a deep understanding of our client’s unique style.

Introducing Going Daisies for Colorado

At Speas Interior Design, we never do the same project twice. This ensures that each design element serves both a purposeful and personal choice, making every moment spent in these spaces profoundly intimate and special for our clients.

Going Daisies for Colorado is a unique space that cleverly incorporates the natural elements of Colorado without succumbing to the cliché lodge style. Instead, it embraces the vibrant spirit of daisies, while also answering to the needs of a homeowner seeking to refresh their space after their grown children have left the nest to start households of their own.

With updates throughout the home, including their Living Room, Kitchen, Breakfast Nook, Dining Room, Primary Suite, and Powder Bath, read on to learn about how we achieved this main level home remodel.

Great Room & Living Spaces

A key feature of the great room and living area in Going Daisies for Colorado is its gorgeous stone feature wall that contains a wood-burning fireplace and ample storage for wood and other important items, like the television. The transformation started with the shelves and TV cabinet. A stylish redesign brought a new look to these elements, with door style and finishes updated to match their new kitchen cabinets. With doors that can close to hide away the TV or slide into the wall and out of the way, we’ve created multiple options for a sleek and seamless style.

Then, we installed prefinished engineered wood floors across the entire main level. The installation included planks of varying widths and a hand-scraped texture. The dark finish of these floors beautifully offsets the knots and texture in the other wood features on this level, creating an intriguing balance in the space.

To add depth and visual interest to the high, vaulted ceilings, we added rustic faux wood beams to pull the eye upward and accentuate the spaciousness within the room. The transition was rounded off with the installation of new Pella® wood- and aluminum-clad windows and sliding doors. These new fixtures enhanced the energy efficiency of the room. We carefully selected the finishes to match existing windows elsewhere in the home. The end result was a space completely refreshed and revised to serve our client’s needs and aesthetic preferences without losing its core essence.

Kitchen

The original kitchen had a great layout, but some of the details and finishes weren’t quite right for the space. We eliminated the soffits—horizontal sections of wall that run along the top of kitchen cabinets. This made the space feel more spacious and airier. Our design team took advantage of the good bones of the room with some key upgrades to make the kitchen area more current and dynamic.

This process began with new cabinetry that took advantage of the eliminated soffits and extended all the way to the ceiling for even more above-the-counter storage. The existing kitchen cabinets were a traditional style and shape with raised arched panels that, when paired with a dark brown and red granite counter, dated the space. We replaced the cabinetry with knotty alder, which added textural interest and a great grain pattern. We chose a warm stain for the perimeter cabinets, and the homeowner had the brilliant idea to make the island stand out with a stunning blue stain to let the knots and grain of the alder shine through—the splash of color acts as a contrasting element to ground the space and break up the wood tones across an open floor plan.

When it came to our choices for the kitchen counters, we went with two stone surfaces that harmonized with one another to extend the space without breaking the bank. For the island, we added luxurious Audax granite for its bold bands of white, silver, gold, brown, and black to pair perfectly with our blue-stained island. We chose a more affordable Havergate™ quartz from Cambria® for our perimeter countertops. With artistic pebbles and whorls of metallic tones, tans, and grays, this quartz fit perfectly with the warm-toned stain of our perimeter cabinetry and matched well with our feature island surface.

For the ultimate gourmet kitchen, new Wolf/Subzero and Viking appliances make for professional results. To finish off our kitchen redesign, we added new plumbing and lighting fixtures in a dark bronze finish that tie into the warmth of the wood floors and cabinets and reflected the bronze tones in the new countertops.

Breakfast Nook

Perfect for any time of day, we optimized a dining nook right off the kitchen in our redesign that includes seating for up to six individuals. Featuring a custom-made banquette with an upholstered seat and patterned back cushion, this built-in solution saves space when compared to a traditional dining table.

In terms of saving space and maximizing storage, we also added storage and function with a new dry bar directly across from the custom banquette. Backing to the stairs, we repurposed the stone from the previous built-in planters to contain a wine fridge and ample storage in knotty alder cabinetry stained the same blue color with Audax granite countertops to match the kitchen island.

Dining Room

The dining room already included the fun curved tray ceiling that acts as a focal point for this space, but during the interior design and remodeling process, we painted the cove in a soft blue to draw your eyes upward and bring some color into the space.

We finished off the existing cabinetry with a stone backsplash and the same Havergate™ quartz from Cambria® as we used in our kitchen perimeter to match the finishes in the space.

Primary Bedroom

As we move into the primary suite, you can see one of the signature touches that makes Going Daisies for Colorado very special. We revamped their existing fireplace for our homeowners to relax in front of on those cool Colorado nights—featuring signature daisy mosaic tiles that are a staple of this remodel. A sandstone mantle surround finishes off this space alongside two sitting chairs upholstered in a soft blue plaid.

Primary Bath

We redesigned the primary bathroom to feature tall backsplash walls with those daisy mosaic tiles to highlight the height of the space and add an elegant finish. We repurposed an heirloom chandelier and hung this long-time family piece above the standalone tub and in between two his and hers vanities to complete the tableaux. We selected our accent lighting and daisy tiles to coordinate with this special chandelier.

The primary bathroom accommodates aging in place with a zero-entry shower that includes a hint of our daisy mosaic tiles to add a decorative accent. A separate water closet ensures that multiple people can use this space, adding to its overall functionality for the homeowners.

Powder Bath
