In the vibrant heart of downtown Colorado Springs, a pair of locals began their search for home remodeling designers in the area. They approached our team at Speas Interior Design, seeking out our expertise for a condo redesign that was poised for a sophisticated and tranquil transformation.
Our team at Speas Interior Design was commissioned with the comprehensive remodel of this residence because we’re known for our expert touch in residential renovations. The homeowners’ vision was for a space that not only met their functional needs but also carried a seamless aesthetic throughout the home.
This project excited us because it encompassed an extensive scope of work. The pre-renovation condo presented a blend of disparate elements—a kitchen with contrasting black and maple cabinets, varied flooring of carpet and cork, and a fireplace mismatched with gray and brown tiles. It was a space in clear need of direction and cohesion.
As premier home and condo remodeling designers near Colorado Springs, our design team at Speas Interior Design approached this challenge with a focus on blending elegance and ergonomics to ensure each decision aligned with the homeowners’ overall vision of a more functional, cohesive, and calm living space.
Join us in exploring how this once disjointed condo was transformed into a serene, harmonious space—the ‘Tranquil Transformation’—a testament to the tastes of these homeowners and to the skilled craftsmanship and thoughtful design we love to bring to the table.
Take A Tour of the ‘Tranquil Transformation’ Condo
At Speas Interior Design, we begin the design development process with determining our client’s design aesthetic and functional needs, we then relay that through our construction drawings, continue with selection of new finishes and fixtures, and end with strategic placement of stylish and matching furniture. We ensure meticulous coordination during the construction phase to ensure our homeowners’ design vision is flawlessly executed.
At the heart of this graceful transition were the changes to the floor plan—creating a space that effortlessly blends old with new. To this end, we drafted some changes to the condo’s flow by repurposing the unused formal dining room into a cozy TV nook. This included constructing a new wall to enclose the TV sitting area and a chic wet bar adjacent to the kitchen, enhancing the space’s entertainment capabilities without disrupting the flow of the home.
Reinforcing the unity across the condo, we installed new solid white oak floors across the living areas and into the bedrooms. Chosen for their natural beauty, these floors feature a clear finish, illustrating Speas Interior Design’s commitment to merging quality with transitional elegance in this space.
Living Room Elegance
A cornerstone of the living area, the original fireplace, was retained but its surroundings were dramatically transformed. We replaced the previous tile with a natural stone that echoes the entryway’s design, harmonizing with the condo’s transitional theme. We added a floating stone hearth and a faux painted vertical band, mimicking copper, to act as art by adding depth and warmth without overwhelming the space.
The living room’s furniture saw a substantial refresh as well, with the introduction of a new rug, recliners, an accent swivel chair, and a new sofa. The selected white fabric and biscuit leather tones work seamlessly with the blue accent rug and the repurposed ottoman, creating a cohesive and neutral palette that complements the room’s updated surfaces—bringing the bright neutral colors of the space together in a harmonious design.
The living room display cabinets received a significant upgrade to align with the new kitchen cabinetry as well. Floating shelves and tall glass-fronted cabinets provide a sophisticated showcase for special items, marrying functionality with aesthetic appeal.
A Kitchen Transformation
Retaining a nod to the condo’s past, we preserved the light maple cabinets in the kitchen. These were seamlessly integrated with the new cabinets that bear an identical finish, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic.
For contrast, the kitchen island underwent a dramatic redesign, featuring a walnut wood breakfast countertop that not only adds warmth and function but also includes maximized storage solutions with accessible cabinets from the back side.
Highlighting our team’s expertise in home remodeling in Colorado Springs, a subtle yet striking change was the introduction of a soft blue cabinet in the pantry. Located off the kitchen, this cabinet offers functional storage for small appliances and serving dishes while injecting a playful use of our homeowners’ blue accent color that is continued throughout the condo.
Complementing the cabinetry, we chose Cambria Quartz countertops in Inverness Frost throughout the kitchen and pantry. The matching backsplash offers understated elegance when paired with the soft champagne matte glass tile between the oven and fridge and above the quartz display ledge that balances the space’s visual texture without overwhelming it.
