From childhood floor plans to luxury home interiors, Kim Liebl’s journey in the world of interior design is nothing short of inspiring. As a Project Manager and Designer at Speas Interior Design, Kim adds her unique creativity, experience, and passion to every project she undertakes.

A Passion Born in Childhood
Kim’s love for interior design began long before she knew it would become her career. As a child, she would spend hours drawing out floor plans, exploring her creativity and imagining unique living spaces. This early fascination with design would prove to be more than just a passing interest.
“One of my hobbies since I was little was drawing floor plans,” Kim recalls.
Interestingly, Kim’s journey to interior design wasn’t a direct path. She initially pursued a degree in American History with the goal of becoming a high school teacher. However, life had other plans. After moving to Colorado from Alaska with her husband, Kim found herself at a crossroads.
“I was trying to decide between [the fields of] architecture and interior design,” Kim explains, referring to an elective course decision that changed her career trajectory. “I took an Introduction to Interior Design class at Pikes Peak State College, just to dip my toes in the water. I absolutely fell in love with it.”
This serendipitous decision would set Kim on a new path, one that would allow her to combine her love for creativity with her passion for helping others.
From Building Luxury Homes to Designing Personal Spaces
With a degree in Interior Design under her belt, Kim began her career working with a luxury home builder in Colorado Springs, designing interiors for custom residential homes. This experience proved invaluable, providing her with a deep understanding of both design aesthetics and construction techniques.
“I spent ten years of learning the construction side [of the business] with also the design side,” Kim reflects. Being part of the construction aspect of interior design helped her to better understand what it takes to create the design intent and develop a sense of teamwork with tradesmen to achieve the right look. “It’s also given me a firm grasp on costs, both in terms of labor and materials.”
Joining the Speas Interior Design Family
After being in construction and doing interior design work for their clients, Kim wanted to expand her knowledge and talents to more aspects of interior design. In 2019, the luxury builder for which Kim worked for had a client that had hired their own interior design to aid with the construction, furniture, and window coverings of their new home.
In these situations, Kim worked as the Selections Coordinator for the clients, interior designer, and builder. This interior designer was Speas’ own Courtney Sikora, Kim and Courtney began working together in their respective roles for this client and learned they had the same philosophies when it comes to design, and both were organized and process driven individuals. Kim officially joined Speas Interior Design in March of 2023.
A Dual Role: Designer and Project Manager
As both an Interior Designer and Project Manager at Speas Interior Design, Kim plays a crucial role in bringing designs to life. She not only helps create the design with Courtney Sikora and their clients but also executes the clients’ vision on-site, ensuring everything runs smoothly for the contractors.
“My previous custom home experience has been instrumental in executing my role as Project Manager,” Kim says. “I meet with our contractors on-site and walk through the construction of each item to confirm there are no headaches.”
For Kim, interior design is like solving a complex puzzle. She relishes the challenge of finding and combining just the right finishes, furnishings, and window coverings to turn her clients’ visions into beautiful realities.
“Having multiple discussions with our clients and learning about them, their family, and lifestyle, helps determine what layout, design, or product would be the best for them,” Kim explains. “Getting to know people and what their end goals are is the basis for everything we do. We want things to look good—but ultimately be functional for them.”
Creating Unforgettable Experiences
For Kim, the most rewarding part of her job is creating unforgettable design experiences for her clients. As an extrovert, she thrives on the personal connections she forms during the design process.
“Getting to know our clients and helping them create, build, or remodel their personal home brings me a lot of joy,” Kim shares. “The process during and then seeing them move in or enjoy their space after everything is done is very rewarding.”
An Inspired Life with Design
When she’s not transforming homes, Kim Liebl leads an active lifestyle that keeps her energized and inspired. She plays for a local women’s ice hockey league, attends dance classes, and enjoys paddle-boarding in the summer.
At home, Kim finds joy in the company of her husband and their two adorable dogs, Pepper and Bandit. Pepper, a 12-year-old miniature Poodle/Pomeranian mix, is Kim’s constant companion at home and enjoys outdoor adventures. Bandit, a 10-year-old miniature Poodle/Maltese mix, is the family’s sweet boy who loves everyone he meets, despite his numerous medical challenges.
From childhood dreams to her years of professional success in transforming homes for Colorado homeowners and beyond, Kim Liebl’s journey in interior design is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance.
Kim explains, “[An interior design] needs to be beautiful, but it ultimately needs to function well for how they live, how their family lives, what they want out of the space, and that, to me, is what makes it more than decoration—it’s full design.”
Speas Interior Design is lucky to share her unique blend of creativity, experience, and genuine care with our clients, designing dream homes and building brighter futures, one home at a time.
