What Is Bespoke Interior Design?

A bespoke interior design begins with a thorough plan customized for each homeowner’s exact needs and preferences. It’s a philosophy that starts with the idea that no two homes or homeowners are the same—which means that your home should be uniquely designed for you.

At Speas Interior Design, everything we do—from architectural drawings and 2D & 3D schematics to project managing your entire design process projecr—starts with your family’s likes and dislikes, current needs, and future goals. Then, we make dream spaces come to life with custom construction, made-to-order furnishings, and luxury finishing touches to go beyond the trends to create your custom home design or remodel.

Classic Glam at the Windy Ridge Oasis

A bright entryway with decorative trimwork and garden view near Colorado Springs, Colorado (CO)

Windy Ridge Oasis, a new construction project, is one example of how Speas Interior Design crafts custom touches throughout a home in a way that feels both glamourous and timeless.

To create a truly built-in look, one of the signature features of this project’s design was the use of US artisan-made cabinetry and extensive trimwork—decorative millwork on their baseboards, crown molding, picture frame wall molding, and window casings—to add architectural interest to each room.

This decorative trim partners well with new custom window coverings and cornices to create a cohesive design that lets the light diffuse into the space. We used innovative Hunter Douglas Luminette® Sheer Shades for many areas of the home. They are made by sandwiching adjustable S-shaped vanes between two sheer panels to combine the benefits of a sheer curtain with the privacy of a horizontal blinds.

The Windy Ridge Oasis project exemplifies how bespoke design can truly transform a new construction house into a tailored home with character, depth, and timeless elegance. It’s about crafting an environment that feels undeniably valuable. This approach to interior design doesn’t just elevate a home–it redefines what luxury living can be.

Seamless Detail at Contemporary Reflection

A living room featuring a modern fireplace and underlet built-in shelving near Colorado Springs, Colorado (CO)

Also a new build, Contemporary Reflection is another great example of how built-in touches and leaning into a home’s architectural accents redefines luxury living.

One of its most unique features is the use of architectural lighting that keeps the space feeling modern and connected to its environment. We installed fixtures flush to the wall, integrating the light sources into its tray ceilings, the shower walls, under floating benches and cabinets, and in their wine room.

We also utilized trim work and built-ins in this home as well, but focused first on functionality then beauty. Creating an office area with roll-away doors and custom panels that reveal a desk, television, and other storage combine with open floating shelves to display personal items. In the lower level we helped to eliminate unsightly electronic devices by developing open back bookcases with wall washed lighting, illuminating heavy textured tiles, and flush integrated barn doors that are modern in style but also easy to use every day.

Our focus on detailed design continues with the oversized open-hearth fireplace featuring gas-burning logs. We covered the façade in oversized porcelain panels and added a floating stone mantel and hearth that add to the organic textures throughout, complementing the overall design and accentuating the juxtaposing built-ins.

Another signature feature was the addition of a large custom walnut pivot door with full glass sidelights covered to protect privacy and gently filter light.

The Contemporary Reflection project exemplifies how thoughtful, integrated design can transform a new construction by seamlessly blending architectural lighting, custom built-ins, and innovative features.

Savory Mountain Retreat: A Well-Loved Space Made Even Better

A kitchen with build-in wood cabinetry, featuring an eat-in island near Colorado Springs, Colorado (CO)

“Bespoke” doesn’t necessarily mean “brand new.” At Savory Mountain Retreat, we remodeled a well-loved home to make the space more useful for the client in a style they’ll love for years to come.

One of the signature features of this remodel was the creation of a wall of warm walnut cabinetry, which included cabinet-paneled appliances for a seamless, luxurious look.

The kitchen island became a focal point with its mitered countertop edge, giving the appearance of a thicker surface. We chose beautiful Quartzite for the countertop, requiring extra engineering to support its weight and accommodate a full-width open shelf with integrated lighting spanning the center of the base cabinets.

To add both functionality and charm, we incorporated a wood seating top to the island, perfect for breakfast or card games with the grandkids. The kitchen’s efficiency was further enhanced with a 6-foot-long Galley workstation, featuring two faucets, a magnetic knife block, and sink inserts made specifically for prepping, serving, and cleaning up with ease.

Lighting played a crucial role in this remodel, with a custom light fixture installed over the island to provide both illumination and a touch of tailor-made elegance.

The Savory Mountain Retreat project exemplifies how bespoke design can breathe new life into an existing space to create a home that’s personalized to the client’s current lifestyle. This approach to remodeling doesn’t just offer a visual update for the home; it transforms a beloved space into a functional retreat that can grow with the homeowner’s needs.
