Designer Tips for Determining Your Style

Whether you’re remodeling your home or just starting on the adventure of a new construction project, it can be difficult to nail down your specific design style. With the prevalence of design inspiration on TV, magazines, and social media, the vision you have of your space can be easily muddied. Utilizing an interior designer for your project can help to ease the stress and narrow down what design aesthetics that are uniquely yours. Read on to get a slice of the Speas process for helping you find your style!

Get Inspiration

One of our favorite exercises to go through with our clients is to have them start an inspiration board on Houzz or Pinterest, depending on their preferred media choice. The first step is searching specific keywords to locate inspiration images with searches pertinent to your project (for example: Modern Kitchens, Open Stairwells, Playrooms, etc.). Beware this can lead to quite the rabbit hole! You will soon be immersed into more inspirational images that you ever thought possible. Don’t worry, you’re only on the first step, your designer is here to help you wade through it all during this process.

Find What You Like… and Dislike

The next step is to go through and start picking out what you like, but even more importantly what you DON’T like. The more you can tailor your style to specific details you like or dislike the easier it is for your designer to really knock your project out of the park. We often joke that ‘No’ is one of our favorite words. It is just as important to know what inspires you as what repulses you and allows us to get closer to your personal style!

Melding Styles

Pick the parts that light up your brain and warm your heart. Listen to your intuition and don’t let all the muddiness of endless inspiration stop you from creating a space you love. And as always, we are here to help you create your *uniquely yours* home sweet home. Get in touch with us here, we’d love to help you through this process.
